I have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and Hypothyroidism myself. I have been there as a patient!
For decades I struggled with undiagnosed Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and Hypothyroidism. Looking back, I’m convinced I had it since teen years. The fatigue and low grade depression became my normal, over time.
Fast forward to medical school many years later. It was then that I really felt the effects of Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis as I studied and struggled many days to keep up. I had a year long bout of heart palpitations and vertigo that baffled several doctors, including a cardiologist. It took many frustrating trips to different doctors to finally get the true cause diagnosed. I ended up figuring it out myself as a 3rd year medical student, when I wandered into a grocery store and saw their mobile lab offering blood work. I ordered a full thyroid panel and when I got the results back, it was clearly a case of Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis (high antibody levels) and hypothyroidism. I was so relieved to finally have a diagnosis!
After starting treatment, I began to see that it wasn’t as simple as “take this pill and you’ll be better”, which my first doctor told me. And so I went to several different doctors and kept being told “your labs are normal, your thyroid is fine now” even though I didn’t feel fine. I was still tired. My hair was thin and constantly falling out in clumps in the shower. It wasn’t until I found the right doctor who would really listen and make adjustments to fine tune my medications that I FINALLY started to feel better. It was a long and frustrating journey.
So you can bet I became passionate about helping others with thyroid disease after my own personal experiences as a patient with Hashimoto’s! After graduating medical school I trained extensively with a board certified endocrinologist who had been in practice for over 30 years. I wanted to learn as much as I could from an experienced hormone specialist in order to fully understand all aspects of hormonal imbalances that seemed to elude doctors and frustrate patients.
Drawing upon my own personal experience as a patient and my medical training as a physician, I dedicated my practice to natural endocrinology and hormone balancing. I began to see while practicing that hormonal imbalances are often the root cause of weight issues, as well as the missing link to preventive medicine and overall health. When hormones become deficient as we get older, we become more susceptible to age related diseases such as heart disease, osteoporosis, Altzeimer’s, dementia and cancers. Optimizing and balancing hormones will not only help us feel better and look younger, it will protect our health as we age! Combine hormone optimizing with a clean balanced diet and regular exercise and we’re going to be doing ALL that is in our power to stay healthy into ripe old age.

In my practice I treat a lot of thyroid disorders, (hypothyrodism and Hashimoto’s especially), hormonal imbalances of the adrenal system (adrenal dysfunctions such as “adrenal fatigue”), and men’s and women’s hormonal issues related to perimenopause, menopause and andropause (male “menopause” or low testosterone). I also help women who suffer from PMS, PMDD (pre-menstrual dysphorphic disorder) and PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). Those are just a few of the common hormonal conditions I treat in practice.
And as far as blood work goes, my philosophy is to optimize hormone levels (including thyroid) versus just normalize! You are not a lab value. While labs give a good guide, how you feel is just as important, because we don’t go to the doctor just to normalize our labs and still not feel good!
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is a big part of my practice. I have been certified in BHRT (bioidentical hormone replacement therapy) through Worldlink Medical, after going through a series of training courses taught by Dr. Neal Rouzier, MD, a reknown expert in hormone balancing. I believe passionately that when we combine healthy lifestyle (clean, balanced diet and exercise) with hormone optimizing and balancing, we utilize the absolute most powerful combination to keep us healthy and happy and active into our golden years!
